Tricia Thorpe is a wife, mother, retired financial planner, hobby farm owner and community advocate. She is currently serving in her first term as Director for Area I (Blue Sky Country) of the Thompson Nicola Regional District. Tricia is seeking your support for the position of Director at Large to continue her passion for advocacy within the Southern Interior. Born in Rossland, British Columbia, Tricia spent her early years growing up on her family’s cattle ranch before moving to the Shuswap area as a teenager. She raised her four children in the Lower Mainland and during this time she worked for several major financial institutions while volunteering on many boards including her housing cooperative. She holds designations in both personal financial planning and a business development program for bankers. She and her husband reside on a small acreage outside the Village of Lytton, where he is a 4th generation resident. Sadly, during the 2021 Lytton Creek Wildfire they lost their home and hobby farm. Their community lost all significant structures including their health care facility, ambulance station, grocery store and police station. Tricia took this misfortune and her personal experiences from this and became a strong voice for rural residents. Tricia firmly believes that communication and collaboration between all levels of government is a vital element to combatting major issues in the province including climate change, housing, and healthcare. Over the past few years Tricia has become a well-known advocate for taking a proactive and mitigative approach to disasters such as wildfire and floods. This has involved becoming a champion for TLKemchEEN Firesmart Committee, many interviews and sharing her experiences in navigating life after the effects of climate change. Additionally, Tricia currently volunteers for Gold Country Tourism, Historic Hat Creek Ranch, 2 Health Planning Tables and an Unmet Needs committee. In her role as Director for the TNRD, Tricia sits on the Finance Committee, Utilities Committee, Policy Committee, Electoral Area Director’s Committee and the Regional Hospital Board.
